Company Overview

ReSource is developing a technology to produce novel materials from sustainable feedstocks for use in applications such as packaging, bottles, and fibers. These materials do not accumulate in nature and outperform incumbent plastics. Current commodity plastic production accounts for 8% of global oil and gas use and nearly 4% of GHG emissions, with these numbers projected to double in the next 30 years. We are commercializing a proprietary process to produce FDCA, a replacement for the petrochemical monomer PTA that is used to make polyesters such as PET, the world's 2nd largest commodity polymer by volume. Polyesters made using FDCA are 100% recyclable, industrially compostable, and degrade much faster than conventional polyester if released into the environment. They outperform PET, with superior thermal and mechanical properties and an increased shelf life for perishable goods. The commercialization of these materials has been impeded by the high complexity and cost of conventional processes, which source FDCA from sugar. ReSource technology produces FDCA from CO2 and waste biomass and reduces the process steps by two thirds, resulting in a dramatically lower production cost that will enable market penetration for high volume applications. Commodity materials synthesized from ReSource FDCA could eliminate >250 Mton/yr of GHG emissions.

The company is located in Oakland, CA and was founded on technology developed at Stanford University. Backed by leading investors including Khosla Ventures, Fathom Fund, Chevron Technology Ventures, and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical, we are currently preparing to commence pilot and demo-scale production. To date, ReSource has raised >$25M, including nearly $9M in R&D grants from the Department of Energy and National Science Foundation.

Position Overview

We are looking for a technician to join our team as we transition our process to pilot scale. Responsibilities of the role will include troubleshooting, maintenance and operation of reactors and equipment as we optimize and scale up our chemical process technology. You will be an important early team member and have an opportunity to impact the commercialization of ReSource technology.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, OR at least 2 years of relevant experience, including:

  • Hands-on experience in chemical reactor design and assembly. Basic machine shop experience will also be preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in a chemical laboratory setting, including basic chemical synthesis, analysis, separation and purification techniques
  • Eagerness to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment
  • Dedication to upholding process safety and product quality standards
  • Experience in operating pilot-scale reactor systems will be highly preferred
  • Experience in continuous process optimization and operation will be highly preferred
