About Rec
At Rec (rec.us) , we’re reimagining how the world plays, trains, competes, explores and gets outside. Our mission is to empower the entire recreation community to thrive, and our vision is bold: power recreation worldwide.
Booking a tennis court? Signing your kid up for swim lessons? Trying to find an open rec league? It shouldn’t feel like filing your taxes. We're partnering with parks & rec departments, golf courses, campgrounds, gyms and more to transform a $105B industry stuck in the Stone Age.
We’re not just putting recreation online—we’re redesigning it from the ground up, for the mobile-first, AI-powered world we live in.
And about AI? From simplifying registration flows to auto-scheduling entire recreation departments to empowering parks & rec staff to utilize the data to make their programming better, we use AI where it makes a real impact. We’re builders at heart, using the best tools to solve real problems for real communities.
If you get fired up by making tech that actually matters—to families, coaches, and kids all over the country—come join us.
Who We Are
We’re a small team with outsized ambition. We’ve built products and led teams at places like Google, Amazon, Uber Eats, MasterClass, The Athletic and more. Now we’re channeling all that energy into something fresh—and fun.
We care about how we build, not just what. Our culture is fast, focused, and full of pride. We keep our standards high, our egos low, and our Slack memes spicy.
Our Values:
Be Relentless. Move fast. Own it. Ship real value early and often.
Win Together. Speak up, go beyond the boundaries of your role. That's how we win.
Take Pride. Treat this like it’s yours—because it is.
About The Role
You won’t just be “the RFP person.” You’ll be a core part of our growth engine — helping Rec win new markets and partners. You’ll get to work closely with sales and product to turn vision into reality. If writing is your superpower and you thrive in impact-driven roles, this is your chance to shine.
If this sounds like your next challenge, we’d love to meet you. Apply with a cover letter and writing samples (especially any proposals, grants, or technical writing) — we want to see how you tell a story under constraints.
What You'll Do
You’ll own the proposal funnel for Rec. That means translating big technical ideas into clear, persuasive responses that win contracts and partnerships. You’ll be a connector across teams, driving accountability and polishing narratives until they shine.
Write, review, proofread, and copy edit comprehensive, long-form proposal submissions (RFPs, RFQs, RFIs) for potential partners including local municipalities, recreation districts, counties, etc.
Identify and analyze solicitations from across the US, ensuring we don’t miss any opportunities, leveraging the latest tools;
Effectively communicate Rec’s ability to address technical needs across our software platform, partner success, and operational teams;
Maintain and evolve scalable proposal responses including reusable templates, proposal libraries, and content repositories;
Digest product specifications, roadmaps, and feature requirements and distill them into simply written and beautifully designed proposals;
Coordinate with Rec’s Business Development, Partnerships, Product, and Partner Success teams to develop strategies for winning high profile, competitive procurements.
What We're Looking For
4+ years of experience writing successful proposals, grants, technical documents, or similar
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills — you turn complexity into narrative clarity
Obsessive attention to detail — you catch gaps, inconsistencies, and errors
Strong project management and multitasking chops — you can juggle multiple competing deadlines
Experience working with many stakeholders — you know how to pull in content, resolve conflicts, and keep things moving
Passionate about helping local governments and/or communities through better technology
Demonstrated track record in RFP writing and government proposals is a plus
