About The Role

This isn’t just an engineering role. As a Staff Full-Stack Engineer at Rec, you’ll be a hands-on builder and technical leader shaping our platform’s future—and our engineering culture. You’ll own everything from React/Next.js UI to Node/Postgres services, partnering with Product and Design to turn bold ideas into rock-solid reality.

You’ll set the technical compass, lead by example in the codebase, and coach others to do the same—establishing the structure, standards, and velocity that fuel a scaling startup.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead architecture and technical vision for our full-stack platform, building for scale, speed, and maintainability.

  • Own high-impact projects end-to-end across frontend, backend, and database layers.

  • Mentor engineers, raise code quality, and drive technical growth across the team.

  • Partner closely with product, design, and leadership to align priorities and deliver fast.

  • Identify and strategize on technical debt—paying it down without slowing momentum.

  • Bring engineering intuition and clarity to a fast-paced, early-stage environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years full-stack engineering experience with a proven record of technical leadership and shipping complex products at scale.

  • Early-stage or high-growth startup experience, helping define engineering culture and product strategy.

  • Hands-on builder and thoughtful coach—you know when to lead in code and when to step back.

  • Strong architectural instincts—building scalable systems without overengineering.

  • Skilled at moving fast without breaking things—and enabling the team to do the same.

  • Thrive in ambiguity—bringing structure, clarity, and focus where there’s none yet.

  • Clear, empathetic communicator and collaborator across teams.

Our Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React + Next.js, TailwindCSS, Storybook

  • Backend: Node + Koa (Express), Postgres + Objection.js

  • Infrastructure & Ops: Inngest, Segment, Customer.io

Pay & Benefits

  • Compensation: $150,000–$250,000 base + meaningful equity (final offer will be based on your background, experience and skillset)

  • Work location: We are focused on hiring a team that will join us at our downtown San Francisco office.
