About Rec

At Rec (rec.us) , we’re reimagining how the world plays, trains, competes, explores and gets outside. Our mission is to empower the entire recreation community to thrive, and our vision is bold: power recreation worldwide.

Booking a tennis court? Signing your kid up for swim lessons? Trying to find an open rec league? It shouldn’t feel like filing your taxes. We're partnering with parks & rec departments, golf courses, campgrounds, gyms and more to transform a $105B industry stuck in the Stone Age.

We’re not just putting recreation online—we’re redesigning it from the ground up, for the mobile-first, AI-powered world we live in.

And about AI? From simplifying registration flows to auto-scheduling entire recreation departments to empowering parks & rec staff to utilize the data to make their programming better, we use AI where it makes a real impact. We’re builders at heart, using the best tools to solve real problems for real communities.

If you get fired up by making tech that actually matters—to families, coaches, and kids all over the country—come join us.

Who We Are

We’re a small team with outsized ambition. We’ve built products and led teams at places like Google, Amazon, Uber Eats, MasterClass, The Athletic and more. Now we’re channeling all that energy into something fresh—and fun.

We care about how we build, not just what. Our culture is fast, focused, and full of pride. We keep our standards high, our egos low, and our Slack memes spicy.

Our Values:

  • Be Relentless. Move fast. Own it. Ship real value early and often.

  • Win Together. Speak up, go beyond the boundaries of your role. That's how we win.

  • Take Pride. Treat this like it’s yours—because it is.

About The Role

This isn’t just a design role. As our Senior Product Designer, you’ll be the voice of the user—and a founding force shaping Rec’s product, brand, and design culture from day one.

You’ll turn complex challenges into clear, delightful, and usable experiences for consumers, instructors, and parks administrators.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the end-to-end design of a core product area—whether that’s consumer experiences, instructor tools, or admin platforms.

  • Translate research and insights into intuitive, beautiful designs that ship fast and evolve constantly.

  • Partner tightly with Product and Engineering to scope, prioritize, and build features that move the needle.

  • Build and evolve Rec’s design system, visual language, and patterns.

  • Lead user research and testing—formal or scrappy—and turn learnings into actionable design.

  • Advocate fiercely for the user and quality at every step—help decide what we build and why.

  • Push our brand beyond the screen—help define how Rec shows up everywhere, from digital to real world.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years designing products in fast-moving, consumer-facing environments.

  • A creative partner who collaborates closely with Product, Engineering, and users to shape direction—not just execute designs.

  • Strong ownership—you’re just as comfortable exploring new features from scratch as refining live ones.

  • Fast, focused, and intentional—you know when to go deep and when to move on.

  • Obsessed with users—your designs are driven by research, feedback, and behavior insights.

  • High standards for craft and cohesion—you care about brand, polish, and every touchpoint.

  • Clear, confident communicator—able to explain your design choices and rally the team.

  • Big-picture thinker—not afraid to challenge assumptions and suggest bold ideas.

  • Energized by wearing many hats—from UI to design systems to real-world brand touchpoints.

Pay & Benefits

  • Compensation: $140,000–$200,000 base + meaningful equity (final offer will be based on your background, experience and skillset)

  • Benefits: Flexible PTO, top-tier health/dental/vision, and a 401(k) plan to support your future.

  • Work location: We are focused on hiring a team that will join us at our downtown San Francisco office.

Ready to build something real? Something fun? Something big?
We’re ready for you.
