The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the investment process, from sourcing and evaluating potential deals to supporting portfolio companies on their growth journey. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about techbio, startups and venture capital to contribute to NFX’s continued success.
The role has six main components:
- Managing inbound deal flow and helping source outbound dealflow - identify and research potential investment opportunities in early-stage techbio startups
- Helping make decisions around investments - conduct thorough due diligence on prospective deals, research the broader market, help craft theses around investments, analyze competitive landscapes
- Helping to manage and support a portfolio of techbio companies - work closely with portfolio companies to support their growth initiatives, monitor and analyze the performance of existing investments, providing insights and recommendations
- Conducting market research - stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies and competitive landscapes to contribute valuable market insights
- Creating reporting and documentation - prepare and present investment memos, reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders
- Representing NFX Bio in the scientific community - attend conferences, actively engage in relevant professional forums, and authentically share your insights and expertise on platforms like Twitter. Be a visible and genuine ambassador for our commitment to innovation and impact in the techbio sector.

Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in biotechnology, bioengineering, molecular biology or a closely related field. A strong academic foundation in life sciences is highly desirable.
- Entrepreneurial Spirit: Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation and startups. Proven ability to think creatively, identify opportunities, and navigate challenges inherent in the startup ecosystem.
- Techbio Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the techbio industry including knowledge of emerging trends, technologies and key players
- Research and Analysis Skills: Strong research skills with the ability to analyze complex scientific and technical information related to biotechnology ventures
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to the rapidly changing landscape of the techbio and life sciences sectors
- Networking Ability: Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships within the techbio community, including entrepreneurs, scientists and industry experts
- Start-Up Experience: Previous experience in or exposure to startup environments, preferably within the techbio or life sciences space
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Team Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team, leveraging diverse skills and perspectives
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate challenges and find innovative solutions
- Passion for Impact: Alignment with NFX’s mission and a genuine passion for making a positive impact through technology and entrepreneurship.
Reporting Structure: This role reports to the General Partner leading techbio investments.

- Salary range for this role is $120,000 to $200,000, commensurate with experience
