Frequent offsites

We spend one week every month offsite in beautiful places like Tahoe, Squamish, Mendocino, the Santa Cruz mountains, and Monterrey. We ship an incredible amount of product on these offsites. And we have a blast — climbing, swimming, surfing, and otherwise enjoying these beautiful places.

Skills Required

Technical skills:

  • [Mandatory] Proficiency with Node, Typescript, and Python.
  • Good understanding of system design concepts - distributed systems, reliability/performance tradeoffs
  • Experience in API design, implementation, and documentation
  • Experience using AI coding tools (Cursor, Github Copilot, Claude, etc) - we require the use of these in the development process!
  • Experience working with CI/CD systems and good DevOps skills a nice to have
  • Excellent documentation and testing habits
  • Proficiency with version control (Git)

Soft skills:

  • 10x mindset - you’ll be the first engineering hire!
  • You are a fun human!
  • Good time management and planning skills

Experience level

2+ years of experience as a software engineer.

We’re leveling this role to Pave’s “P3” level:

> "Owns small or function-specific projects. Provides updates and receives input at key milestones within each project."

  • You are able to work with the rest of the team to:
    • define priorities
    • suggest good solutions
    • excel at implementation
  • You generally pick up concepts quickly, pattern match on past problems.
  • You are obsessed with speed and quality, and help embed that quality into the rest of the team.
  • You are self-directed, and do not generally need help organizing / prioritizing your time.

  • Self-directed: We don’t require you to know how to do everything we need. But what you lack in experience, you make up for with a desire to learn. You are comfortable taking specs and: defining requirements, setting priorities, and effectively self-directing.
