EvenUp is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Client Portal team. This team plays a critical role in shaping how our clients engage with EvenUp’s platform—building innovative integration architecture and seamless user experiences that directly impact customer satisfaction and business outcomes.
You will lead a team of software engineers focused on developing, scaling, and maintaining part of our SaaS platform, including but not only our APIs and our integration engine at the heart of our client portal. Beyond just managing code delivery, you’ll foster a high-performing, collaborative engineering culture that emphasizes product excellence, rapid iteration, and continuous learning. If you’re passionate about solving real user pain points and building interfaces that make a difference, this is your chance to lead from the front.
This is a hybrid role with the expectation of working at least 3 days a week from our downtown Toronto or San Francisco hubs.
What you'll do:
Lead the Engineering Team: Manage and mentor a talented group of software engineers, guiding them through architectural decisions, career growth, and best practices.
Shape Technical Vision: Own the technical direction for the Client Portal team—designing extensible architecture and driving execution across the full software development lifecycle.
Drive Cross-functional Development: Partner with product and design to deliver seamless, performant, and intuitive user experiences.
Collaborate Across Functions: Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders—including Product, Legal, and Operations—to prioritize user needs and deliver high-impact solutions.
Foster Engineering Excellence: Set and uphold standards around quality, security, documentation, performance, testing, and observability.
Up-level the Team: Support engineering efforts in architecture and problem-solving while challenging, supporting, and up-leveling the team in these areas.
What we look for:
Proven Leadership: 4+ years of engineering management experience, with a strong track record of hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers in fast-paced environments.
Experience at Scale: Strong understanding of scalability, performance, and security.
Staff-Level Expertise: Experience in building complex SaaS solutions, scalable web portals, resilient public APIs, and experience in integrating with multiple systems across vendors as well as data orchestration..
Product-Minded Execution: A passion for understanding user needs and translating them into reliable, scalable technical solutions.
Strong Communicator: Able to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to engineers and non-engineers alike.
Quality-First Mindset: Committed to writing maintainable, well-documented code and enforcing best practices in testing and reliability while maintaining a fast pace of execution.
Collaborative Partner: Experience working across product, design, and business functions to define and execute against a shared roadmap.
Nice-to-Haves:
Familiarity with React/TypeScript, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, and orchestration frameworks.
Experience in legal tech, AI-driven applications, or other social impact domains.
Previous experience in a high-growth startup or building client-facing integration platforms.
